The Children's Cultural exchange project with SA Embassies

This is a project between local schools and schools abroad that promotes reading and storytelling. The Department of Information Science staff worked last year with schools in Greece, Netherlands, Korea and Gabon as well as with local schools in Tembisa, Everton, Paarl townships, farm schools in Potchefstroom and Upington areas. This year the programme will involve Jamaica, Brazil and Rwanda. 

Other projects include:

  • Storytelling Festival which will be concentrating on stories from the Limpopo Province
  • Workshops in the practice on cataloguing, classification and the allocation of subject headings to new young professionals.

Helping schools in Atteridgeville to set up a functional school library. It is part of an Academic Literacy Research Unit Project (under the leadership of Prof Lilli Pretorius of the Department of linguistics).
