The sport industry in South Africa is a multi-billion rand industry and is the creator of many thousands of jobs. There is a definite gap in the market regarding the knowledge levels of the sport managers in charge of sport events. The objective of this programme is to teach these sport management skills to any person involved in sport events, be it on management or administrative level, as well as any active sport participants in any of the sporting disciplines of South Africa.

12 months comprising 2 semesters.

A national senior certificate or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.

Evaluation and examination
One two-hour examination paper will be written for FIVE of the modules at the end of each semester in June and November, while ONE module will be assessed through the means of a portfolio assignment. The venue based examinations will be written at official Unisa examination centres.
A mark of 50% is required to pass the examinations in each module.


On successful completion of the two modules students will be awarded a certificate by the University.

Distance education by means of study guides, tutorial letters and assignments.

Registration, commencing date and fees

Intake  Registration period
First intake 22 Jan (registration takes place from 28 Nov until 23 Jan)
Second intake 16 Jul (registration takes place from 18 Jun until 13 Jul)
Students must register for a maximum of 3 modules per semester/intake. Students must register for  Modules 1, 2 and 3 in the first semester of study and for Modules 4, 5 and 6 in the second semester of study.

The programme fees are R4 800 (R800 per module). These fees include tutorial matter, tuition and examination fees, but exclude the prescribed books. Students should pay in full for the number of modules registered for (3 modules x R800 = R2 400).

On receipt of your registration form and the fee, the prescribed study material for all the modules, as well as a unique student number, will be dispatched to you.
