Aim of the short course:
This course is to equip students with knowledge on how to deal with diversity and culture in multicultural schools.

Target group:
Educators and school governors.

Admission requirements:
A senior certificate.

Language of instruction:
English.

Duration:
1 (one) year)
(All three modules must be completed in one year)

Number of modules:
3 (three) modules

Registration dates:
2 December to 28 February

Full course fee:
R5 100-00 (an additional fee per module to be paid by students living outside the borders of South Africa)
Fees for groups, depending on extra services required may be different

Module content:

MODULE 1

Orientation to multicultural education (CTME01G):

  • Theory of multicultural education
  • Understanding diversity and culture
  • Applying different approaches to diversity

MODULE 2

Teaching in a multicultural classroom (CTME02H):

  • Teaching in a linguistically diverse classroom
  • Teaching learners with diverse learning styles
  • Curriculum development for multicultural education

MODULE 3

Critical issues in multicultural schools (CTME03J):

  • Cross-cultural communication
  • Discipline strategies in a multicultural schools
  • Parent involvement in multicultural schools

Nature of assessment/examinations:

  • Complete, submit and pass written assignments for each module
  • A two hour examination paper to be written in October/November.

Workshops:
An optional workshop presented in Pretoria
