Programme in Public Procurement and Supply Management

Aim of the programme In the history of management, the procurement function has never developed more rapidly than the last decade. as the function developed, concepts and approaches such as supply management, strategic sourcing and supply chain management were developed.
Public procurement officials are confronted with these new developments when doing business with the private sector. Also, there is pressure on public institutions to embrace the new approaches to efficiently manage their finances, in particular their procurement functions, which is evident from the Public Finance Management Act, Preferential Procurement Regulations and the Supply Chain Management Framework.
This programme aims to present the new approaches to the management of the procurement functions - within the public procurement and private sector environment.
Duration of the programme One year (12 months) or longer if a learner prefers to register for less than six modules per year.
Registration requirements
- A National Senior Certificate or equavalent qualification. (Preferably some purchasing and/or supply experience)
- Admission may be considered on basis of seniority and appropriate experience. A letter of substantiation should accompany such an application.

Teaching Method This is programme is offered by means of distance learning. Communication with learners will primarily be by means of personal correspondence, tutorial letters, telephonic contact and email. The learner's progress will be measured by assignments submitted during the year.
Language The programme will be presented in English only. Students may, however, communicate and writer assignments and examinations in Afrikaans.
Study Material and Language Six study guides, several tutorial letters and assignment stationary are included in the programme fees. The purchase, and resultant cost, of prescribed books will be the learner’s own responsibility. The programme is offered in English only. Students may however communicate with lecturers and write assignments and examinations in Afrikaans.
Examination Learners will obtain admission to the examination by submitting one written assignment per module. The examination comprises a two-hour closed-book, written examination per module.
Registration Date and Programme Fees
- First semester:23 Jan (Registration takes place from 28 November 2011 until 23 January 2012)
- Second Semaster: 13 July (Registration takes place from 18 June to 13 July 2012)
The fee is R1 160 per module; the total fee for the Programme in Public Procurement and Supply Management is R6 960. Hundred percent (100%) of the module fees are payable with registration.
Please note: Foreign learners need to pay an additional amount per module for learners from both SADEC countries and all other countries, respectively. (See the general info in this booklet.)

Please make the payment after you have received a student number and provide proof of payment to us.

Please fax the registration form, a copy of your ID document and a copy of your matriculation certificate to 086 686 3401 or e-mail a scanned copy to cbmregistrations@unisa.ac.za.
Payment:
Personal registration You can visit the UNISA Centre for Business Management at the UNISA Muckleneuk Main Campus, and register and receive your study material immediately by completing the registration form, providing the correct documentation and making the payment at the UNISA Registration Hall.
Credit card You can fax, mail or e-mail the required registration documentation to the details provided above and indicate your credit card details on the registration form for immediate registration.
Cheque by mail. You can also mail your registration documents to the UNISA Centre for Business Management, enclosing a cheque for registration. The study material will be despatched to you immediately after registration.
Bank deposit. You can also provide the UNISA CBM with the registration documents by e-mail or fax in order to be pre-registered as a temporary student and obtain a student number. You can then make the tuition fee payment of R6 960.00 (for six modules) into the following account:

Study material
After receipt of the proof of payment, the study material will be despatched to your postal address via registered mail. You will receive a slip from the post office in your mailbox, after which you must pick up the package at your local post office.
