About the journal

Politeia is a journal accredited with the South African Department of Education and produced three times a year by the Departments of Political Sciences, and Public Administration and Management, University of South Africa (Unisa), Pretoria, South Africa.

The mission of this interdepartmental publication is the promotion of the study of, and interest in, Political Science, and Public Administration and Management on the African continent and in the international community at large.

Articles published in Politeia encompass a wide spectrum of views and issues relating to Public Administration and Management, Political Science, International Politics, Strategic Studies, and African Politics.

Editorial Policy

  • Analytical contributions in the form of original articles, research letters, research papers and review articles, rejoinders to debates, book reviews and opinions/viewpoints are welcomed and will be considered for publication.
  • Not more than one article per author will be published in a single volume. This applies also to articles by joint authors of which one of the authors have already published in a particular volume.

    Contributions will be submitted to local and international peer reviewers for evaluation before acceptance for publication.
  • The Editor reserves the right to edit contributions accepted for publication or to refer them back to authors for editing.

Information for Contributors

  • All contributions must be typed in double spacing on only one side of A4 paper, and should be submitted to the Editor in three hard copies, together with an electronic copy on compact disc (CD). The word processing package used should be clearly indicated.
  • Articles should be accompanied by a short 250 word abstract in English and should be limited to approximately 8 000 words in length.
  • Book reviews should be about 600-800 words in length. Book reviews must include full bibliographic details including the publisher, number of pages and local price.
  • Contributors should provide their full names, institutional affiliation, postal, fax number and e-mail address on a separate page. Contributions must be accompanied by a covering letter in which the author(s) state(s) that the contribution has not been published elsewhere or is not under consideration for publication in a publication other than Politeia, or until the contribution has been withdrawn from consideration by the author(s). The author(s) must also state that the contribution has been language edited before being submitted.
  • Contributors may supply the Editor with names of possible reviewers and their contact details. The Editor reserves the right not to consult those reviewers.

Style Requirements

The British spelling style is followed. Single inverted commas must be used for quotations. All articles must include references and a list of sources consulted. Submissions to the journal shall comply with the Unisa Journal Style Sheet. The Style Sheet will soon be available online.

Copies of the style sheet are obtainable from the Editor, as well as in previous editions of the journal.
