Kimberley alumni networking dinner

On Saturday 28 July 2012, the Kimberley Alumni Chapter held an alumni dinner at the Kimberley Club, Northern Cape.

The purpose of the dinner was to network and mobilise alumni in the Kimberley region, to give support to the Chapter, and to encourage the university’s alumni to sign up for membership of the Unisa Alumni Association in support of the 2015 Unisa Strategic Objective 6.6, namely "mobilising Alumni in the service of the University".

Unisa’s delegates present at the dinner were Prof Louis Molamu, University Registrar; Mr Matthews Kokong, Regional Director Midlands; Ms Amanda Tlale, Alumni Relations Manager; Mr Joshua Mpiriane, Alumni Relations Officer; and Ms Maria Louw, Regional Academic Coordinator.

Attendees had an opportunity to view the 2011 Chancellor’s Dinner DVD which was followed by an address by Prof Louis Molamu, who spoke briefly about the university alumni and their responsibilities. The guest speaker, Mr Darryl Christians, Chief Director, Department of Economics Affairs and Tourism in the Northern Cape government, spoke about the challenges his department and the government at large are experiencing.

He also spoke about the migration of skills that are lost to the Province for greener pastures in Gauteng and the Western Cape provinces. In conclusion, Ms Amanda Tlale delivered the vote of thanks to alumni and everyone who contributed towards making the meeting the success it was.
