Prof Obed Maguvhe joined the Department of Inclusive Education on 2 January 2013. He has done his PHD on how to include visually impaired persons into schools, especially those that are doing science related subjects. Numerous M&D students will be supervised by Prof Maguvhe. He will also be helping to teach the teachers on this subject. Helping to grow the department and working towards recognition for the work they do is what he looks forward to doing as he is passionate about research. The field of Inclusion is not yet well researched and this department will contribute tremendously in terms of research and in producing teachers and other practitioners who will have a better understanding of inclusion. Moreover the department will be producing other researchers to strengthen the field of inclusivity.
As a visually impaired person he has taught at a special needs school in Venda, Limpopo. From 2002 he was the director for Education at the National Council for the Blind where he was an advocate for blind persons to be admitted to schools and teacher institutions, he analysed policy and submitted proposals for funding and proposals for embarking on various projects of the council. He also assisted with the establishment of ABET and ECD centres for the blind where training of practitioners on blindness related subjects could take place. Subjects such as Braille and teaching methodologies were some of the topics covered. Prof Maguvhe was then seconded to the Department of Education where he was in charge of learners with special education needs. Here he was the director in charge of the disability sector which fell under Prof VI McKay.

I just want to say congratulations to Professor Maguvhe. God bless you with your new job. Form Dzulani given mathavhathe na venda ndivho yavho I khou todea
