The Department of Inclusive Education in the College of Education meet every Friday from 08:00-09:00 for a “Happy Hour/Celebration Hour” for the team to reflect on and celebrate their successes for the week. According to Prof N. Phasha the CoD, this is the best way to end a week. She said: “It gives us the oomph to end the week on a positive note and that will give us courage to start the following week on a positive note.  In addition, it is important for colleagues to know that the work they do is important and acknowledged. We have a big task to build an inclusive department that is world-class.”

The members nominate the inspiration of the week at this opportunity. This week Ms Dora Kunutu was nominated for her role in building up her community. She uses netball to raise awareness about breast cancer amongst young women in Limpopo, Monotwane village. Dora is only 23 years old and has recently joined the department as an administrative officer. The tournament was aimed at enlightening and supporting the community on the topic of breast cancer. It provided the Monotwane community members with factual cancer related information to raise cancer awareness; to increase early detection and to help individuals make informed healthy choices. Our rural areas are to some extent not covered by the government initiatives on cancer awareness. As it is known that a sport generates interest and unity amongst the communities, a netball game was used to attract a crowd and then a cancer awareness message was delivered. The crowd consisted of visitors from other villages who came to support their teams.
