media releases - Unisa regional brand launch in Limpopo ProvinceUniversity of South Africa is set to launch the new brand in Polokwane on 5 June 2006. Limpopo Province Premier Mr Sello Moloto will be the keynote speaker at the event to be held at the Meropa Casino at 19h00. Other guests will include MEC of Agriculture in Limpopo Province, Mrs DP Magadzi and Professor Barney Pityana, Unisa Principal and Vice-Chancellor who will present the principal’s address. The merger of the old Unisa and former Technikon South Africa and the incorporation of Vista University Distance Centre ( VUDEC) into one new institution naturally gave rise to a need for a whole new brand with a distinct value in an increasingly competitive higher education market. The new Unisa brand, which is valued at R157 million, needed to leverage Unisa’s 130 years, Technikon SA’s 25 years and VUDEC’s 23 years of rich heritage. The new brand has been designed to house three symbiotic brand identities. The first identity is the academic crest, an official University seal, which is reserved for graduations, inaugurations and other university ceremonies and documentation such as certificates, diplomas and degrees. The second identity is the primary identity, the flames- made up of vibrant colours of red (energy), orange (inspiration) and blue (stability), which is derived from the crest. The third identity, also derived from the crest, is that of the Unisa flagship brand, the Graduate School of Business Leadership. All three identities integrate to differentiate the new Unisa as an institution that inspires its stakeholders to create a meaningful future for the service of humanity. The new brand identity is distinctly African and leverages the heritage of the previous institutions to firmly establish the new Unisa as a brand in its own class, befitting one of the world’s top 10 mega universities.
