media releases - Unisa registration extension08 February 2006 The University of South Africa is extending its closing date for registration by one day because of the increased influx of students at its main centres. Unisa management has undertaken to remain open on 10 February until all prospective students who are waiting in the registration halls by the time the University officially closes, have been assisted. However, students who arrive after 16h00 will not be assisted. The University’s call centre has been unable to cope with the number of calls from students making enquiries (about 11 000 daily), so to assist students who are registering for the first semester, Unisa has extended this closing date from 9 February to 10 February. Currently Unisa is registering up to 4 000 students daily. Thirty thousand internet registrations have been received and 70% of these have been processed. The University has had an unprecedented number of students going in person to the centres where they can register and immediately receive their tutorial matter. These centres are Pretoria, Florida, Durban, Parow and Polokwane. The University is addressing the problems experienced by the call centre, as a matter of urgency.
