media releases - UNISA to host the annual festival of languagesThe School of Language and Literary Studies at Unisa is proud to host the annual festival of languages to celebrate diversity from 28 September 2005 – 1 October 2005. Anyone interested in a career in languages, is invited to enter the world of languages and literature in a feast of drama, talks, interviews, poetry-readings, story-telling, sign-language and much much more. There will be a lucky draw for book prizes each day and also the chance to win a R1 000,00 bursary towards study in any of the courses offered in the School. The School of Language and Literature Studies at Unisa is unique in that it offers 20 languages (Afrikaans, Classical Greek, English, French, German, Italian, Latin, Mandarin Chinese, Northern Sotho, Portuguese, Russian, Shona, Southern Sotho, Spanish, Swati, Tsonga, Tswana, Venda, Xhosa and Zulu), as well as courses in cultural studies in the cultures represented by these languages. You can also supplement your studies of literature with courses in the Theory of Literature and in Linguistics. The School also offers degree programmes and postgraduate studies to language professionals such as journalists, editors, copywriters, teachers, translators, interpreters, broadcasters, linguists, language planners and other professionals in the diplomatic service and tourism and hospitality industry.
