media releases - Dr Anna Mokgokong appointed Chairperson of Unisa Council
Earlier this year she was invited to join the Women Leadership Board of the Harvard JF Kennedy Business School in Boston. In 1994 she was elected Soroptimist Community Person of the Year and a year later she was selected as a delegate on President Nelson Mandela? s task visit to Britain in 1995. The Institute of Marketing Management nominated Dr Mokgokong as a finalist Emergent Marketer of the Year for 1996, and in 1997 she was nominated as a candidate for Lebone Woman of the Year award. A member of the Institute of Directors, Dr Mokgokong serves on the boards of a range of organisations, including the University of Pretoria, Community Healthcare Holdings and Monte Vista Casino. Soweto-born Dr Mokgokong started her career in private practice after obtaining a BSc degree at the University of Botswana and her medical degree at the Medical University of South Africa, where she won the Best Family Medicine Student award. Later, in turning her attention to the commerce and industry, she successfully blended her medical training and knowledge of community health care with private enterprise.
