media releases - Hugh Masekela and former President of Botswana receives honoraryA final date for Hugh Masekela’s ceremony has not yet been confirmed. Sir Masire will receive his on 13 May. Mr Conrad Theys, a well-known and accomplished arts administrator and sponsor of the arts will receive an honorary doctorate on 24 May. The Rev Dr T Simon N Gqubule will receive an honorary doctorate for his role in ecumenical theological education on 26 May. Nearly 12 000 students will have graduated at the completion of Unisa’s graduation ceremonies that begin on Friday 16 April in Pretoria and end in Windhoek on 19 June. They will take place in Pretoria, Wellington, Bellville, Bloemfontein, Polokwane, East London, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit, Kimberley, Durban, Umtata and Windhoek. In total, 7 770 students will receive degrees of which 5 216 are bachelor degrees, 1 868 are postgraduate bachelor degrees 597 are master’s and 89 are doctorates. A further 4 203 diplomas will also be conferred. Several of the ceremonies will include the former Technikon SA and Vudec students. A further six ceremonies specifically for former TSA students will take place between 22 June and 30 July in Middelburg, Rustenburg, Johannesburg and Pretoria.
