media releases - Registrar of Banks to speak at Unisa Economics Seminar

Rene van Wyk, the Registrar of Banks will speak at the “Economics and beyond seminar” hosted by the Department of Economics at Unisa on Tuesday, 22 January 2013. He will speak on “Basel III requirements for Banks”.

Basel III will be introduced from January 1st 2013 until 2018 and is the global regulatory standard on bank capital adequacy, stress testing and market liquidity risk agreed upon by the members of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision in 2010-11. As Registrar of Banks, Van Wyk will elaborate on bank practices and the impact of Basel III.

The “Economics and Beyond Seminar” is a monthly series hosted by the Department of Economics at Unisa. The aim is to provide a platform for engagement with stakeholders and exchange knowledge on the current state of our economy and related matters.
