media releases - Not too late for matriculants to register for management coursesMany 2012 matriculants have considered studying a BCom degree at one of the residential universities. However, not everyone has been accepted for 2013. Others have not yet decided what they wish to study. In the case of professional athletes they need to study in between training sessions and travelling during tours and competitions. Unisa’s Centre for Business Management (CBM) is ideal for these training needs. Even those who are taking a gap year can benefit by studying some management courses. South Africa has a dire shortage of entrepreneurs, managers and leaders. Unisa offers several short learning programmes in management. The admission requirement is a National Senior Certificate (NSC) and students for the first semester may still register until 25 January 2013 and for year courses they have until 15 March 2013 in order to register. The registration form is available from www.unisa.ac.za/cbm and prospective students need not visit any Unisa offices in order to register. Completed registration forms can simply be scanned and sent by e-mail to cbmregistrations@unisa.ac.za or sent by fax. These short learning programmes in management are offered by the Centre for Business Management (CBM) and covers all the specialised areas of management, from Supply Chain Management to Marketing and Retailing; HR management to Financial Management; Risk Management and Insurance, as well as Banking. There are also Project Management and Total Quality Management courses available, as well as Work Study courses. One of the programmes focusses on how to manage your personal finances. Entrepreneurs who wish to start their own business can benefit from courses designed for entrepreneurs and small business owners. Details of all these courses may be found at www.unisa.ac.za/cbm The benefit of many of these short learning programmes (SLPs) is that they do not only provide management knowledge and skills, but in many cases enable students to apply for credits and exemptions for modules offered in the BCom degree offered by Unisa. These programmes are also very affordable and allows students to study from the comfort of their homes. The examinations can be written at Unisa examination venues. There are 355 venues spread throughout South Africa where Unisa students can take their examinations. One need not reside in Gauteng in order to study at Unisa. Unisa is not restricted by class room size and can accommodate students who wish to study any SLP in management, provided they register before the closing date.
