media releases - Unisa Library to host the 2012 Unisa Open Scholarship Seminar

The Unisa Library will host the 2012 Unisa Open Scholarship Seminar as part of the 6th International Open Access Week celebrations on 25 October 2012, 09:00 to 13:00, at the Miriam Makeba Auditorium,  Unisa Muckleneuk Campus, Pretoria.

The purpose of this event is to inspire the academic community in South Africa to embrace the concept of Open Access and Open Educational Resources (OER).

The focus is strongly on the implementation of OERs at Unisa and the impact of open access publishing on the visibility and citations of research output from an academic perspective. The event will be concluded with the celebration of the signing of the Berlin Declaration on Open Access to Knowledge in the Science and Humanities.

The Unisa Library is also hosting an exhibition at its Muckleneuk, Pretoria branch during the week of 22 to 26 October 2012 to showcase the various tools and resources available to academics in the use of open access publishing and repositories. Information on how to retain the advantages of the monetary earnings from publishing in accredited journals is also available at the exhibition.

For more information on the Seminar as well as the exhibition, contact  Ansie van der Westhuizen (watkiapj@unisa.ac.za)
