media releases - Yet another feather in Unisa's science cap

The University of South Africa (Unisa) received yet another feather in its science cap when one of its academics, Dr Mokhotjwa Dhlamini was confirmed as the latest addition to the prestigious South African Young Academy of Science (SAYAS) on Wednesday, 05 September 2012.

Dr Dhlamini is currently with the Department of Physics at Unisa’s College of Engineering, Science and Technology (CSET).

Launched in September 2012, SAYAS is an organisation borne out of the need for young scientists to contribute towards solutions to important national and global challenges facing society. It also aims to contribute towards the development of scientific capacity in South Africa through mentoring and role-modeling of future scientists; as well as to foster opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration between young scientists.

Its founding members were selected amongst the best scientific minds in South Africa; and represent a diverse range of talent in terms of race, gender and scientific discipline.

Dr Dhlamini joins another Unisa academic, Professor Mpfari Budeli, from the Department of Mercantile Law, who was admitted to SAYAS in 2011.
