media releases - Unisa's Midlands Regional Office to hold Wellness Day

Unisa’s Midlands Regional Office will hold a Wellness Day for staff, students and the general public at the Ben Marais Hall, Cnr Middle and Beneden Streets, Rustenburg from 06:00 on 07 September 2012.

The event, aimed at encouraging staff and students to live healthy lifestyles and improve their livelihoods, will be attended by both internal and external stakeholders.

Amongst the internal stakeholders will be the Midlands Regional staff, staff from the Unisa Clinic and Employee Wellness Unit, the Regional Student Representative Council (RSRC) as well as students.

The external stakeholders will include Virgin Active, South African Blood Services, National Youth Development Agency (NYDA), Small Enterprise Development Agency (SEDA), Lifeline, Spes Bona (an organisation for people with disabilities), Department of Sports and Recreation, Department of Health, North West FM, Platinum Weekly, Rustenburg Herald and the communities of Phokeng and Rustenburg.

The wellness activities lined up for the day include the following:

-       HIV/Aids Counselling and Testing

-       Fun walk/run (5 km)

-       Group exercise sessions conducted by Virgin Active

-       Health Screening tests

-       Live interviews with North West FM presenters.

-       Wellness talk by local doctor or wellness specialist
