Unisa online - CSET graduation ceremony

Learners from Bokgoni Technical Secondary School

The College of Science, Engineering and Technology (CSET) once again invited the learners of Bokgoni Technical Secondary School to a graduation ceremony. This is an initiative that CSET adopted last year to motivate township learners. The graduation ceremony took place at ZK Matthews Hall on the Muckleneuk Campus and 20 top Mathematics and Science learners from Bokgoni Technical Secondary School attended.

This initiative is consistent with CSET’s community engagement aim to stimulate children’s interest in Science, Engineering and Technology, as well as the 11 Cs + 1 that Prof Makhanya, Principal and Vice-Chancellor launched last year. These learners were not just an ordinary audience and this fact was evident when the acting Vice-Chancellor of the ceremony, Prof Mamokgethi Setati, Vice-Principal: Research and Innovation introduced each one by name.

In our interview with some of the learners after the graduation ceremony, which they classified as an opportunity of a lifetime, they said the following:

  • Thabang Kwenaite: “This is was a firsthand experience I will never forget, because not everyone has this privilege”
  • Dimakatso Modiba: “This opportunity gives you the edge to do anything because without education there is no bright future”.
  • Mohapi Moqayi “It is an inspiration that shows and gives hope that anything is possible”.
  • Lerato Malesa: “I feel so inspired and encouraged, but above all, it is an honour that I will hold for the rest of my life”

In her closing remarks, Prof Setati told the graduands that their degree would not make them any different from other graduates, but rather it was what they did with their degree that would distinguish them from the rest.
