media releases - Unisa appoints new Registrar

The University of South Africa (Unisa) has announced the appointment of Professor Mogege Mosimege as its new Registrar. The appointment is with effect from 01 September 2012.

Professor Mosimege joins Unisa from the North West University, Mafikeng Campus, where he held the position of Vice Rector: Academic. He was responsible for the Teaching and Learning, Research and Community Engagement portfolios. His other previous work history includes, amongst others; a stint as Manager: Bilateral Relations and Director: Indigenous Knowledge Systems, both at the Department of Science and Technology; and as Director for Indigenous Knowledge Systems at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). He has also worked as a lecturer and H.O.D at the University of Limpopo (Turfloop Campus) and the Taung College of Education. 

His qualifications include a Diploma in Education (Science), a Bachelor of Science (Ed) (Mathematics, Chemistry and Physics) and a Bachelor of Education, all from the University of North West. He also holds an M.A. in Mathematics Education from Eastern Illinois University, Charleston, Illinois, USA; a M.Sc in Science Education from Wits University as well as a PhD in Mathematics Education (Ethnomathematics) from the University of the Western Cape.

Professor Mosimege has conducted research, supervised Masters' and Doctoral students, made presentations at national and international conferences and published extensively in the areas of Mathematics Education (Ethnomathematics), Science Education (Chemistry Education) Indigenous Knowledge Systems and Research Management.  

The Unisa Council has also approved the re-appointment of Professor MC Mare as Vice Principal: Academic (Teaching and Learning) and the appointment of Professor Rushiella Songca as Executive Dean: College of Law.
