media releases - Unisa's Keith Jacobs inaugurated as member of ECSA
Dr Keith Jacobs, Unisa’s Western Cape Regional Director was inaugurated as a member of the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) on Thursday, 05 July 2012.
This follows his appointment to the council by the Minister of Public Works in January this year; which is in recognition of his commitment to the built environment in South Africa and his valuable experience in the engineering field.
Dr Jacobs joined Unisa from the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), where he was Associate Dean of Engineering. He also serves in a number of professional and advisory capacities at several institutions, including the Council of the West Coast FET College, the Board of the South African Society for Engineering Education, the Board of Masakh’iSizwe and the executive of the Engineering Standard Generating Body (ESGB), where he serves as chairperson.
His qualifications include a Bed Degree from the University of the Western Cape, an MBA from the Stellenbosch University and a PhD from the University of Cape Town.
He is part of the new ECSA council appointed by the Minister to serve for a period of four years, effective from 1 January 2012.
ECSA is a statutory body established in terms of the Engineering Profession Act, 2000 (Act No. 42 of 2000). Its vision is to ensure that South Africans enjoy all the benefits of a strong, competent, growing, sustainable and representative engineering profession, able to provide all the expertise necessary for the socio-economic needs of the country and to exert a positive influence in South Africa.
