media releases - Unisa strike settled

Unisa Management and Labour (Nehawu and Academic and Professional Staff Association (Apsa)) have reached an agreement on salary increases for 2010.

The average differentiated salary increase is 8,6%. In addition to the differentiated increases, once-off payments were also agreed to. These once off payments are calculated to make up the difference between the actual salary increase for each job grade and 9%. The total cost of the agreement averaged at 9% for each job grade.

It is envisaged that the formal signing of the agreement will be done shortly. Thereafter full details will be made available. The agreement will be implemented during the July 2010 payroll and will be effective from January 2010. Nehawu called off their strike action as from 1 July 2010.

During the strike the University’s normal routine and operations were affected. Prof Barney Erasmus, Vice-Principal: Operations said that notwithstanding this, many members of staff had continued to strive to deliver normal service to staff and students. The University would like to thank students for their patience and staff for their commitment during this period.
