media releases - Unisa to launch skill development project at High SchoolUnisa will be launching a multi-faceted agriculture project to help transfer agricultural knowledge and skills to learners at Mandlethu high school while their educators will be undergoing training. The project launch will be attended by Unisa management this Friday at the school in Vlaklaagte, number 1 location in Mpumalanga. Unisa’s project leader, Professor David Modise says more than 100 learners and 5 educators will receive practical training as part of the project. "While we will be focusing on give learners theoretical lessons and demonstration on agricultural science, production and management, we want to transfer agricultural knowledge and skills to educators through workshops, demonstrations and support so that they may articulate the syllabus more competently," said Professor Modise. Prior to last year Matric Examinations, the University sent 3 lecturers to prepare and support Grade 12 learners for their examination. Professor Modise said the University also wanted to recruit educators to enrol for agricultural science at Unisa since most of them lacked formal agriculture training. The University bought tools, equipment, text books and teacher’s guide books to help in commencing the project. Part of the project is the development of small scale vegetable gardens at the school to aid financial striped school from relying on an annual tuition fee of R75 per learner.
