media releases - Hundreds of Unisa students to graduate in East London

This year 883 students will graduate during four ceremonies to be held in East London.

The graduation ceremonies will take place at 18:00 on Friday 23 May and at 10:00, 14:00 and 18:00 on Saturday 24 May at the Border Conference Centre.

A total of 395 students will receive diplomas or certificates and a further 488 will receive their degrees.

Unisa’s Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof Mandla Makhanya will cap the students. Other Unisa officials include Prof Louis Molamu (Registrar), Prof Ian Alderton (Deputy Executive Dean of the College of Science, Engineering and Technology, Prof Nqosa Mahao (Executive Dean of the College of Law), Prof Rosemary Moeketsi (Acting Executive Dean of the College of Human Sciences), Prof Hellicy Ngambi (Deputy Executive Dean of the College of Economic and Management Sciences), Prof Elias Mashile (Director: School of Arts, Education, Languages and Communication) and Prof Richard Hendrick (on behalf of Executive Dean of the College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences).

This year just over 12 000 students will graduate from the University’s five colleges during the autumn ceremonies which begin on 21 April and end on 30 June.

A total of 4 499 bachelor degrees, 2320 honours degrees, 507 masters’ degrees and 35 doctorates will be conferred. Unisa will confer 7 361 degrees in total and a further 4 797 diplomas.

Graduations will be held in Pretoria, Polokwane, Cape Town, Durban, Nelspruit, East London, Bloemfontein, as well as Gaborone and Mauritius.
