2013 CSET ODL Conference - Integrating theory into practice
Call for abstracts
The intention of the conference is to showcase and engage with innovative research projects in teaching Science, Engineering, and Technology in an ODL environment.
Individuals and/or groups are invited to submit proposals for 20 minute research paper presentations in any of the following themes:
- Academic student support
- Innovative assessment in ODL
- Technology-enhanced learning
- Changing role of academics in ODL
- Research designs and methodologies
To submit a proposal for a presentation, please submit an extended abstract to the conference organizers.
Instructions for submitting extended abstracts
Proposals for presentations should be submitted as extended abstracts. The abstracts should be submitted as an email attachment, sent to Dr Eeva Rapoo at the email address: rapooe@unisa.ac.za.
Technical requirements
- Please send the abstracts as an MSWord document, single spacing.
- The abstract should be approximately 1000 words long, excluding references.
- References should be done according to the Harvard style.
- The abstracts should be written in English.
- Include the names of all authors with their institutional affiliations and email addresses.
- Indicate the corresponding author, if there is more than one author.
- Indicate the theme in which the presentation belongs
Review process All abstracts will go through a peer-review process. The following criteria will be used to assess the abstracts for acceptance:
- The abstract should make it clear how the suggested presentation contributes to the field of research into open and distance learning. Presentations which just describe ODL practice with no reference to other research in and/or the theoretical foundations of the field will be rejected.
- Focus should be on teaching Science, Engineering, and Technology in an ODL environment.
In the event that the paper is accepted, at least one author must register for and attend the conference. Accepted abstracts will be published in the conference programme.
