On behalf of the organizing committee, we would like to invite you to the founding SAERA 2013 conference hosted by the College of Education (UNISA).

Conference Theme

The state of play in educational research in South Africa: practices and perspectives

Sub - theme (examples of possible topics are listed under each sub-theme)

Building conceptual frameworks

  • Developing theory in and for the global South? What is meant by South? Hemisphere or sub Saharah Africa?
  • Research, democracy and citizenship
  • The role of public intellectuals in South Africa
  • The relationship between research, policy and practice

Research development

  • Research infrastructure, funding, publishing, networks
  • Building the next generation of researchers; academic development, research induction, institutional R&D, impact of new technologies on research dissemination
  • The politics of research production

Research on the following areas

  • Knowledge, Curriculum and Pedagogy
  • Education Leadership and Law
  • Educational Development and Access


Research related to the specific phases of education

The conference also invites papers on research related to the specific phases of education: Early Childhood Education, Schooling, Further Education and Training, Higher Education, and Adult Education and in specific disciplines such as Science, Maths and Technology Education,  Educational Psychology, Literacy and Learning
