Selection criteria

Participants

A total of 60 African early career scholars are invited to participate in this conference. Participants are targeted for participation from most regions of Africa as a strategy to widen ISSBD membership. Invitations to participate are sent out to relevant departments at both local and regional universities. he conference is advertised in the ISSBD bulletin, and on the websites of the University of South Africa, Department of Inclusive Education. The following are the criteria for selecting early career scholars for financial support:

  • A letter of intent to participate in the workshop
  • A statement of career or research goals
  • An abstract of completed or ongoing research proposal
  • An introduction letter from a senior researcher/ supervisor or Head of department confirming registration and/or progress in postgraduate studies (Masters or doctoral program)
  • Selected developing researchers with published research will have an added advantage.

Conference structure

It will unfold over three (3) full day sessions [25 to 27 September 2013]. There will be a variety of sessions and modes of presentations. These will include oral paper presentations by senior scholars from South Africa and other parts of Africa. There will be poster presentations by early career scholars and keynote addresses by identified senior scholars. There will be a platform to exhibit journals and other relevant publications. These will provide young scholars with opportunities to further discuss their research work, career aspirations, collaborate with senior scholars, and to network with their peers
