The Convention for the International Sale of Goods 1980

Background to the Convention
The CISG as a body of international sales law has been in operation as a convention since 1988. Worldwide 58 countries, representing about two thirds of the value of world trade, have acceded to this Convention. To date only seven African countries have ratified the Convention.

Aims of this website

This site is part of the independent reference sites on the CISG aimed at promoting the acceptance and spread of the CISG and providing access to information relevant to a specific area. As part of the development of African trade and trade law, it is important that CISG with its world-wide acceptance should also become the international sales law of Africa.
