Social Welfare Law - Service module for Social Workers

• SCW2601: The purpose of this module is to enable learners to gain insight into (a) the administration of justice; (b) the legal process and profession; and (c) the social worker's involvement in family disputes.
• SCW2602: The purpose of this module is to enable learners to gain insight into aspects of substantive law (eg, the law of persons, family law and child law).

FLS1501  (The Origins of South African Law)
The purpose of this module is to give learners an overview of the origins of the universal South African legal system, focussing on the Western or European, the African and the (human rights) traditions.

The purpose of this module is to provide a basic understanding of the Roman Law that underlies much of contemporary South African law

The purpose of this module is to provide students with the necessary reading, writing and numerical skills to enable them to complete their studies successfully

SCL1502 (Research literacy for law) ONLY FROM 2013

The purpose of this module is for students to gain the fundamental knowledge and skills necessary to conduct research in the various fields of law.

LJU4803 (Comparative Law)
The purpose of this module is to equip the learner with the necessary knowledge of the comparative method and skills to undertake comparative studies of different legal systems.

LJU4804 (Conflict of Laws)
The purpose of this module is to equip the learner with the required knowledge and skills to solve private-law issues that involve the laws of different countries.

LJU4801 (Legal Philosophy)
The purpose of this module is (i) to enable learners to identify, critically discuss and defend their own viewpoint about the philosophical assumptions underlying law in general and specific legislative policies, legal judgements, arguments and legal practices in particular; and (ii) to gain insight into the various ways in which these assumptions have changed over time.

LJU4802 (Professional Ethics)
The purpose of this module is to enable learners to understand the basic ideas and rules that govern ethical behaviour in legal practice
