Field of specialisation:
Medicinal, Aromatic, Beverages, Vegetable studies and Tropical and Subtropical Fruits.

Research interests: The evaluation of agronomic management and medicinal plants extracts of herbal medicine on bioactivity tests. This research will be in collaboration with Tshwane University of Technology and University of Limpopo. The research will aim at establishing field trials of on agronomic and vegetative enhancements to access commercial viability of medicinal plants extracts on large scale of commercial significance.

Research Projects:

  • The effect of shading on quality of bush tea.
  • To determine the effect of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) on growth (biomass) and chemical compositions (polyphenols, antioxidants and tannins) on field grown bush tea.
  • To investigate the effects of phenological stages on the chemical composition (polyphenols, tannins and antioxidants) of field grown cultivated bush tea. The distinctive phenological stages used for this study will be the aerial new growth (leaves) and the older basal leaves of bush tea and whole plants.
  • To determine the effect of pruning on growth and chemical composition (polyphenols, tannins and antioxidants) of bush tea.
  • To investigate the use of growth regulator on vegetative enhancement in a field grown bush tea and also chemical compositions (stated in objective 1).
  • To determine the microbial activities of bush tea after the application of mineral nutrition application.
  • Agronomic management and chemical composition of baby spinach
