Academic Profiles

The college of agriculture and environmental sciences has adopted a holistic and integrated approach to scholarship that can be conceptualised in three focal points of our research are community, agriculture and the environment, specifically the resources and needs for each focal point. The college believes that these three points are interconnected to each other and balanced against each other in a triangle and that the factor that keeps the triangle in balance is sustainability with the external result of sustainable livelihoods, a sustainable environment and sustainable agriculture. This ethos permeates the tuition, research and community engagement. The result of this ethos is that environmental awareness is a central part of all we do in research and community engagement and what we teach and has lead to the major initiatives this year in the modules of environmental literacy (certificate students) and environmental awareness (all other undergraduate students). This ethos is reflected in our community engagement initiatives like CAMP, Household food security training and research like fog water harvesting.
