Many of us are involved in international collaborations. From 14-28 January 2012 we benefited from a visit by Spanish scholar, Prof Maria Lirola: an expert in systemic functional linguistics, an approach which may be used to analyse social situations such as racism and gender stereotyping as well as literary, visual and media texts.

Weekly colloquium

We hold a weekly research colloquium at which active researchers, postgraduate students and invited speakers speak.

On 10 April we had the privilege of hosting the noted poet, activist and academic Prof Chris Mann of Rhodes University. Here he is seen speaking to Mr Mzukisi Lento on the left, while our postdoctoral fellpw, Dr Raphael d'Abdon, is smiling on the right.

Conference on Home in 2014:

In early 2014 we are planning a conference on this theme, which will also be interdisciplinary and will feature both language and literature, amongst other things. Watch this space!
