Mrs Lydia Mbati

Short biography:

Lydia Mbati is an educationist who begun her relationship with books at an early age. As an adolescent she occupied her time reading, which opened up a wonderful new world to her. She lectured in the areas of Educational Media Production, Technology Education and Educational Technology.

Lydia also served on the Harrismith Public Library Committee where she was in charge of the Prisons Portfolio. On relocating to Pretoria, Lydia taught Computer Integrated Education at the University of Pretoria’s Department of Humanities.

All Lydia’s qualifications are education related, her B.Ed (Honors) is in Fine Art Education, her M.Ed in Educational Technology with a focus on Computer Based Education, and she is am currently busy with her Doctoral studies with a focus on Educational Media and Constructivist Learning. Her main research interest lies in the immense possibilities various technologies offer in stimulating higher order thinking as opposed to the mere linear delivery of educational content in open and distance learning environments.

Current research projects with which Lydia is involved are:

  • Collaborative discourse analysis on mobile learning.
  • Collaborative research on the implications of cross-border education.
  • An integrative literature review on technology for constructivist learning.
