Ms Lindiwe Shabalala

Short biography:  Ms Lindiwe Shabalala

I am a distance education generalist at the Institute for Distance Education (IODL) , and coordinate the ODL Continuous Professional Development.  Prior to that I was seconded to the office of the Special Advisor, ODL, Unisa as an ODL Analyst and Developer. for to the first ODL Project team at Unisa.  I have also been part of the team that developed and taught one of the ODL programs at the Institute for Continuing Education (now IODL), Unisa. Previously in my career, I managed and taught the Regional Access Programme at the Eastern Seaboard Association of Tertiary Institutions which was based at the University of Natal (now the University of KwaZulu Natal).  Before that, I was the research assistant and briefly administered the bursaries in the Community Organisation, Research and Development Programme at the University of Natal. For over five years, I worked in the private sector for a commercial bank.

Personal research interest: 

  • Planning, policy development and analysis of ODL environments
  • Capacity building and continuous professional development in ODL

Current research projects:

  • Perceived value of ODL capacity development at Unisa
  • Comparative case study of ODL capacity development
