Changes in the banking environment make it necessary for banking staff to equip themselves with basic banking skills. The primary purpose of this qualification is to provide the qualifying learners with a competency to understand and apply the basic principles of the operations of the financial system within the domestic economy. This will contribute to the learner’s employability as a professional, both in the formal financial services sector and related industries thereby contributing to the economic and social up-skilling of South Africa.

A National Senior Certificate or equivalent and Course in Fundamentals of Banking and Risk Management.

Content
The programme consists of the following semester modules:

It is recommended that students register for the first four modules during the first semester of registration and the remaining four modules for the second semester. Students are allowed to register for a maximum of four modules per semester.

Evaluation and examination
Students will be assessed on the basis of assignments completed during the duration of the programme and a formal two-hour examination on each module to be written during May/June and October/November at official UNISA examination centres. To pass a module, a student must obtain a minimum of 50% in the examination.

Certificate
On successful completion of the 8 modules, students will be awarded a certificate by the University.

Advanced study opportunities
Students who have successfully completed the Programme in Advanced Bank Management
will be able to articulate to the formal Banking qualifications offered by Unisa.

Distance education by means of study guides, tutorial letters and assignments.

Registration, commencement date and fees
Registration detail is as follow:

  • First Semester: Registration 29 Nov 2011 to 23 Jan 2011 for the semester starting in January 2012 (Exam May/June 2012).
  • Second Semester: Registration 18 June to 13 July 2012 for the semester starting June 2012 (Exam October/November 2012).

The cost per module is R1200.00 which includes study material, tuition and examination fees. An additional cost per module will be levied for students outside South Africa in order to cover costs. Prescribed books are not included and students must acquire the prescribed books themselves. Information/quotes on the prescribed books can be requested via email from info@proactiverisk.co.za or www.proactiverisk.co.za

Registration forms should be faxed and accompanied by a copy of National Senior Certificate and ID. Once registered a unique student number and invoice will be provided for payment purposes. On receipt of the full fees for the number of modules registered for, per semester, the study material will be dispatched.
