The Chance 2 Advance programme is a community engagement initiative from the Pro-Vice-Chancellor’s office. The project began in 2010 with a month-long community learning programme entitled The Better World Village.
On the 3rd and 4th of May 2012 the programme conducted training to would-be Chance 2 Advance Learning Ambassadors, whose responsibilities would include: mobilizing the community to attend Chance 2 Advance workshops.
On Friday 27 January 2012, the Chance 2 Advance team accompanied Mr SM Phuthego (Director of Unisa's Internal Audit Department) to a career day at his former high school, Kelokitso High School, in Soweto.
From 5-9 March 2012 over 1500 students attended the Chance 2 Advance Programme in Sunnyside Pretoria. The programme consisted of 23 workshops with 26 facilitators and it was designed to help students prepare for the world of higher education.
The rural community of Oakford suffers from high instances of HIV/AIDS, poverty and unemployment. Over 500 community members benefited from the 11 workshops that were offered to them through the Oakford coommunity programme.
