Effects of the South African Post Office strike on Unisa processes

The strike at the South African Post Office (SAPO) over the past five weeks has had a negative impact on Unisa processes and on Unisa students. During this period, many assignments were not delivered to Unisa and marked assignments to be returned to students were either not delivered or were delivered very late.

Semester 1 assignment due dates will not be changed. Unisa will, however, accept assignments until 15 April 2013. This arrangement excludes all assignments for Signature Modules, i.e. AFL1501, BPT1501, EUP1501, GGH3708, SJD1501 and SUS1501. Please remember that you can submit your assignments to Unisa via myUnisa: https://my.unisa.ac.za.

Please note: You must submit at least one assignment per module to Unisa by 15 April 2013 to gain admission to the examination.

Don’t forget you must be seated in the exam venue 15 minutes before the exam starts

I urge all Unisa students who are writing exams at the moment to take the issue of arriving early at the exam venues very seriously. We all know that there are unpredictable traffic problems countrywide; this is beyond our control. We all know that there may be limited parking spaces at the venues; this is also beyond our control. Despite these issues, it remains the responsibility of each Unisa student to leave home early enough to avoid these issues. If it means leaving your homes before dawn, so be it. This is your future, it is a once in a lifetime sacrifice. Please try, by all means possible, to arrive at the exam venue hours before the time. It is not in Unisa’s interest for any one of you to miss an examination opportunity. Please put everything aside and focus on this life-changing and career-enhancing opportunity. I am proud of all of you and I know that you can make it.
From Convy Baloyi, Unisa Dean of Students

Unisa examination venues in Durban have changed

Unisa has experienced significant growth in student enrolments, which means that not all students can be accommodated at certain examination centres in Durban. In addition, Unisa examinations will, with immediate effect, no longer be written at the Durban Regional Centre.

Students registered to write examinations at examination centres in Durban may, therefore, be assigned to an alternative examination centre in Durban. Full details of these changes will be available on myUnisa from 14 March 2012.

Students in the Durban area may still go to myUnisa to make changes to examination venues between 14 March 2012 and 30 March 2012. Please note, however, that 6 of the 11 Unisa examination centres in the Durban area are already fully booked. The myUnisa system will only allow examination venue changes to be made at venues with available space.
