Dr BE Zawada
Qualifications: BA (Hons) in Linguistics (University of Stellenbosch); Senior Education Diploma (University of Pretoria); MA and D Litt et Phil in Linguistics (Unisa). Research Interests: Her interests are in the areas of theoretical linguistics, particularly cognitive linguistics, corpus linguistics and developmental psycholinguistics, as well as general linguistics, particularly from a typological-functional perspective. She is also the project leader of a strategic project at Unisa to develop spoken language corpora for the languages of Southern Africa, including South African Sign Language. Dr Britta Zawada was appointed as Director of the erstwhile School of Arts, Education, Languages and Communication in 2008. Since the institution of the School of Education, the current School of Arts has been created, which she headed from 2010 to 2011. She joined Unisa in 1987 as a Junior Lecturer and moved up the ranks to the position of Senior Lecturer in Linguistics where she was appointed Chair of Department in 2006.
