Pedro Verona Rodrigues Pires, born 29 April 1934, was Prime Minister of Cape Verde from 1975 to 1991.
After the ruling African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) decided to institute multiparty democracy in February 1990, Pires was elected General Secretary and went on to become President of his party in 1997. He won in the 2000 elections and then again in 2006. He is current President of the Amilcar Cabral Foundation.
