In 2010 it will be 25 years since the Department of Private Law of the University of South Africa initiated the annual Property-Law teachers’ seminar. The idea behind these seminars was to bring together teachers of Property Law to discuss developments in Property Law over the preceding year. To celebrate the 25th year of its existence, the Property-law group from the School of Law of the University of South Africa is presenting an International Property Law Conference.

The topics (and sessions) for the conference are the following:

  1. Basic Principles of Property Law
  2. Acquisition of Ownership
  3. Real Security Law
  4. Constitutional Property Law

Four keynote speakers will each introduce a session with a general overview of the current issues relevant to the topic under discussion.

The keynote speakers are:

  • Basic Principles of Property Law: Prof. em. Dr. Dr.h.c. H P Westermann, Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen
  • Acquisition of Ownership: Mr Justice L Mpati President, Supreme Court of Appeal, South Africa
  • Real Security Law: Dr AJM Steven, University of Edinburgh, Scotland
  • Constitutional Property Law:  Prof AJ Van der Walt, Professor of Law and South African Research Chair in Property Law, University of Stellenbosch

Gala Dinner: After dinner speech by Prof. Dr. Eric Dirix, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven, Belgium.
