About us 

The Institute for Open and Distance Learning (IODL) is housed in the College of Graduate Studies (CGS) at the University of South Africa (Unisa), one of the mega distance learning institutions in the world and the largest distance education provider on the African continent. IODL is part of the portfolio of the Vice Principal: Research and Innovation. IODL is a research intensive institute committed to provide leadership in innovation and excellence in Open Distance Learning (ODL) research.

IODL strive: 

We will achieve our mission through the following four foci:

  1. To lead and advance ODL research institutionally through research thrusts
  2. To provide leadership and be a significant contributor to ODL initiatives institutionally, nationally, regionally, continentally and internationally
  3. To provide, support and contribute towards continuous ODL research capacity development
