The following are underlying assumptions on which UNISA bases its services for students with disabilities:

That all students deserve nothing less than a quality education and training that would provide them with opportunities for lifelong learning, employment, and meaningful participation in society as productive citizens.
That the prerequisite for all learning and development should be the creation of an enabling environment in which everyone is valued, and which promotes student access and success.
That students should be provided with opportunities not only to enter higher education programmes, but also to succeed in them.
That a quality education and training for students with disabilities would contribute significantly to the broader agenda for social and economic development of our country.
