As per the directive of the former minister of Education, Unisa, the Technicon of Southern Africa and the distance education section of Vista University have been merged into a single comprehensive distance learning institution.

The afore mentioned merger, and the restructuring of the components of the massive new institution, have resulted in the creation,  inter alia of the School of Accounting Sciences, which consists of four independent academic departments, namely the Departments of Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Taxation and Auditing.

All the programmes and courses in Accounting Sciences previously presented by the now defunct former institutions remain available to interested students.  The information pertaining to the newly created departments forming the School of Accounting Sciences appears above.

Accounting involves identifying, measuring and recording events which influence an enterprise's financial situation and results, and the processing, communication, interpretation and use of the resultant information. At under  and postgraduate level the focus is on income tax, cost and management accounting, financial accounting, planning and administration of deceased and insolvent estates, and local government accounting.
