About usVisionThe Vision of the Programme: Security Management is broadly to "provide higher educational leadership to the private sector security services industry in Africa that will contribute to the empowerment of professional security practitioners". Aims and Objectives
All our courses are drawn up with specific careers in mind and are industry-related. This means that business and industry play a large role in the content of study programmes and the development of learning outcomes that goes hand-in-hand with work experience. Students will gain first-hand experience of the practical skills they will need to do on the job. Career path: If you’re creating a career for yourself, then such a qualification in Security Risk Management will give you the academic muscle to support the practical experience you already have. Employees can enhance themselves along with their studies, because with open and distance learning you can still work – and at the same time gain a higher qualification in Security Risk Management. Affordability: It is in the national interest that your studies are not a drain on your budget. All programmes offered by us are subsidized by the government, which means you can well afford the opportunity to study, earn a higher qualification, and achieve your personal ambitions. Minimum admission requirements: Learners should at least have Matric (Grade 12 or Standard 10) or equal qualifications, or three years working experience in security or a related field, e. g. Defence Force, safety, police or correctional services, and an ambition to make security management a career of choice. In a nutshell, Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) enables you to gain recognition and credit for what you already know and can do. For more information contact Prof Anthony Minnaar. You may call (012) 429-2160. The style of tuition that you will receive from is one of distance education. This means that you don’t have to attend classes. You can study in your own time and in the comfort of your own home. All we require from you is that you, from time to time, attend occasional group discussions to supplement and augment your individual learning efforts. All your study material is delivered and you will also receive a time table for submitting your compulsory assignments and the set dates for writing exams. The emphasis is placed on practical outcomes - based education aimed at empowering you to perform effectively in the real world of security in the following fields: Investigations, Operations officer, Security supervisor / inspector, Security site manager, Security operations manager, Control room managers and more.
