“Unisa is one of a few teaching and learning institutions with a truly global reach. The College of Human Sciences, with more than 650 education providers, covers such a wide array of the human and social sciences that no one person or grouping can ever truly claim to encompass that veritable potpourri of skills that have enabled this college to impact so impressively both within South Africa, but also well and truly far beyond its borders,” said CHS’ Executive Dean Prof Rosemary Moeketsi.
Prof Moeketsi highlighted the CHS’s achievements, including the number of CHS graduates produced and the qualifications which CHS staff members acquired during the past year. “It continues to give me such pleasure to go back in thought to the activities, achievements and challenges of the previous year. Our students passed well. We produced more Master’s and Doctoral graduates than we care to count; many Master’s degrees with distinction,” added Prof Moeketsi.
The college produced several NRF rated researchers in 2012, and Prof JS Dreyer from the Department of Philosophy, Practical and Systematic Theology, rated a B3, is the best rated in the college. Other NRF rated researches include Prof M Keuris, C2, Prof IJJ Spangenberg, C2, Prof WJ Wessels, C2, Prof M Le Roux, C2, Prof GF Snyman, C2, Prof MJ Masenya, C2, Prof E Bornman, C2, Prof R Barker, C2, Prof RS Viljoen, C2, Prof OB Onyancha, C2, Prof S Ndlovu, C3, Prof J Murray, Y2 and Dr W Bentley, Y2.
Technical issues which were on the agenda were also discussed. Prof Moeketsi then thanked all staff members for their commitment and hard work. “I really do not wish for more, but to encourage you to continue to do well what you have thus far done well, which is to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield. I encourage you to continue to pay particular attention to our students and ensure that their experience at Unisa continues to be a pleasant and productive one. I want you to rest assured that 2013 has been dedicated to acknowledging your worth and rewarding all your endeavours,” said Prof Moeketsi.
