Welcome to the Department Musicology at Unisa
Sad News
Professor Niel Geldenhuys, who was in poor health for some time, sadly passed away on December 24. Prof Geldenhuys was a member of staff in the sub-department of Musicology for 32 years. Our thoughts go out to his wife and family.
Thank you for visiting our musicology web pages.
As from 2010 our teaching model and Musicology curriculum at undergraduate level sees several important changes.
First, we shall offer all our modules in semesters only. This means that you will be able to choose between Semester 1 (written exams in May/June) and Semester 2 (written exams in October/November).
Second, our existing three major subjects will be consolidated into two majors: Composition Studies (which includes aspects such as harmony, counterpoint and analysis) and Music in History and Society). In addition, we offer the first-level module Music Bibliography for BMus students. You may select modules from Music in History and Society (or choose it as a major) even if you are not registered for the BMus degree (e.g. the BA or BVA degrees). Some Composition Studies modules are also available for BA students.
